Hi, I’m Alysha, a third-year Communications student at Thompson Rivers University, majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Marketing. I’m passionate about the connection between PR and marketing and how these fields work together to build strong brands and shape customer perceptions.
My interest in the fields of PR and Marketing began in grade 6 during an entrepreneurship fair at school. It was my first opportunity to create and sell a product, and I was hooked! That year, I sold handmade bath bombs, learning how to package and present them in a way that caught people’s attention. The following year, I experimented with planting and selling fresh herbs, which taught me the importance of understanding my audience and adapting to their interests. These early experiences sparked my passion for branding, creativity, and connecting with people, setting the foundation for my journey into Public Relations.
What I love most about PR is the creativity and strategy it involves. It’s profound knowing that PR professionals have the power to tell and sell stories that resonate with audiences and create emotional connections between people and brands. I thrive in dynamic environments, which is one of the reasons I chose PR as my focus.
This summer, I’m hoping to land a co-op position in PR, where I can gain hands-on experience, build on what I’ve learned in school, and contribute to a team while continuing to grow as a professional. I’ve had the opportunity to develop my skills as the PR Director of the TRUSU Accounting Club and currently serve as their Media Director. Additionally, I’ve enjoyed volunteering at the CFBX Radio station, where I’ve contributed to creating marketing materials. These experiences have fueled my passion for PR and Marketing, and I’m excited to apply my knowledge and creativity in a professional setting.
